The Darci Seipke Benefit Foundation

The Darci Seipke Benefit Fund was established in June 2007.  Its one goal is to maintain a fund to pay medical expenses for Darci, who needs a kidney transplant.

Darci Seipke, a 28 year old Lake Orion Michigan resident has been diabetic since age 3 1/2.  After 24 years of battling high and low blood sugars, diabetes has taken its toll on Darci's body.  She is now blind in the right eye, has heart damage and Stage 4 Renal Failure.  The doctors have advised her not to work and put her on a low protein, low sodium, low potassium diet in an effort to preserve her kidneys as long as possible.  Their goal is to try to avoid dialysis prior to the transplant.  Darci is on the William Beaumont Hospital's Kidney Transplant waiting list.

01/09/08 UPDATE- Darci has now started the process to receive diaylsis.  We'll let you know when she starts the actual treatments.

03/09/08 UPDATE- Darci will be getting the fistula surgery tomorrow, this is the start of the diaylsis process.  The actual diaylsis is due to start at the end of summer.

04/03/08 UPDATE- Darci's fistula placed in her left arm on 3/10 did not take.  She is scheduled for placement in her right arm on 5/12.  We'll keep you posted.

05/27/08 UPDATE- Darci had the second fistula surgery on May 12th.  It appears to have taken.  Now the process of enlarging the veins for diaylsis use starts.  We still don't have a start date for diaylsis, but this is a good thing.  The longer we can hold off on that the better chance that she will get a transplant first.  More updates coming this summer.

07/30/08 UPDATE- A few weeks ago Darci got news from her doctors that diaylsis is being put off until the end of the year.  Yea! More time to get that transplant first. She is in great spirits and looking forward to the rest of the summer.
